When we talk about video editing on Mac, we think quite easily about iMovie, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere. And yet, there are many other alternatives that just need to be tested. Wondershare understood this and did not wait long to get back into the dance with his Filmora software. So, can this program make the weight against the big names of the market? This is what we will see in our test.
Using iMovie and Final Cut Pro quite regularly, I was waiting to see what Wondershare was going to do with his video editing software. So it was with a few questions that I installed Filmora and started it for the first time.
The first window, very sober, allows to start the creation of a new film or to open a project already in progress. We click on the first button to find out what Filmora has in the womb.
The first impression was rather positive. Unlike Apple’s software, Filmora sports a default interface in highlights with an organization of the window very similar to its competitors. The bottom half of the page corresponds to the timeline, while the upper part shows the media or effects display on the left, and the right side of the part that allows you to view the video.
The timeline is separated into several parts which allows for easy legibility: videos, audio, music, effects. You will find just above a few buttons that let you display the parameters when you select a video clip for example.
The software also offers an integrated message center that allows the publisher to communicate on current promotions.
But let’s move on to serious things, I’m already looking forward to what Filmora offers from the video editing point of view.
Effects by thousands
I started by importing a hundred videos from a previous trip. Filmora did not flinch and posted them without any problem. Adding a video to the timeline is a simple drag and drop. You can then, via a + click control, access the options to edit the video in question such as to detach audio from it.
Filmora has an impressive database as soon as you go in the resources offered: music, filters, titles … I was simply amazed. By default, the software loads them only when you need them, which explains the small arrow at the top left of each thumbnail.
Managing securities, for example, is really well thought out. When you add one to your timeline, double-clicking allows you to access a dedicated window where you can change the effect by adding text and adjusting the duration of the animations.
Another element that seemed to me very well integrated: the management of several videos within the same screen. Filmora offers several models in which you just have to drag the extracts of your choice and the result is immediately visible.
At the level of the advanced tools, we find something to add a mosaic (to blur a face for example) or a Face Off function that replaces the faces with smileys. The effect, although fun, is rather random especially when there are several people on the video.
A little disappointment regarding the tool for editing photos and videos that seemed light enough, at least in front of what other competing software offer. There is still an automatic mode for those who want to let the program take care of all the settings. There’s also something to change the audio with pretty simple adjustments.
Exporting a video is very easy. Several formats are available as well as a wide choice of rendering quality. Note that in the trial version, a watermark is applied to the exported files.
Difficult to tackle an area where Adobe and Apple are already well established, and yet Filmora proves to be a very good alternative if you are looking for a complete video editing software. Above all, we feel that the software is much more accessible for beginners. With a user-friendly interface, it is its resource libraries that impress the most especially that it is possible to add new ones via the site of Wondershare. Filmora’s Lifetime license fee is $49.99 for 1 Mac, a much better price compared to Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere, you can download Filmora crack too, it works in the same way as premium one. An unlimited evaluation version is available for download. The videos created with this one will then have a watermark.
